I wanted to provide some key dates for the income tax season.
S-Corporations, LLCs taxed as Partnerships, or Partnerships
All three are due on March 15th this year. It would be helpful to get me your tax information by March 1st in order for me to work on your taxes and complete them by the due date.
If March 15th is just not doable, then the entity must be put on an extension by March 15th. The extension will provide six months to complete the tax returns. That date is September 15th. It would be helpful to get your tax information by the middle of August, so I have time to complete the tax returns and review them with you before the filing deadline.
C-Corporations
C-Corporations are due April 15th this year. It would be helpful to get the tax information to me by the middle of March. This gives me time to complete the tax return and review it with you before filing. If April 15th is not doable, then the entity must be put on an extension. This is an extension to file, not to pay. It is important that SOME money be paid to the IRS on April 15th. With some work, we can get to a projection for taxes that may be owed on April 15th.
The extension is good for six months. That makes the filing date October 15th. It would be helpful to get your tax information by the middle of September, so I have time to complete the tax returns and review them with you before the filing deadline.
Please be aware that if taxes are owed for the last tax year, then we should set up estimates for this tax year. The estimates are just that: what do you think the C Corp will owe for taxes in the next year? The four quarterly due dates are April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15.
Personal
For your personal taxes, they are back to April 15th for this year. I will need to get your information before the end of March to be sure I have time to get your taxes done by April 15th. If an extension is needed, it must be filed by April 15th. It is an extension to file, but not to pay. We can work on a projection of your tax liability so you can pay some money by April 15th.
